The Crown/The Royal House of Valm: The premier power in the land, the Crown contains both those of royal blood and those bound in their service. Aside from serving as the ruler of all Renalia, the King holds the title of Duke of Zant, which means that all Zantian nobles answer directly to him.
The House of Berugia: House Berugia rules over the frigid province of Lorima. Famed for producing warriors of great prowess, House Berugia prizes martial prowess above all, and many great warriors have either been born of House Berugia or have married into it.
The House of Absteme: House Absteme rules over the prosperous forested area of Nemetis. House Absteme is known for its promotion of the magical arts, and was the first of the Great Houses to fund and take seriously the rising power of magic.
The House of Lann: House Lann rules over the impoverished, war-torn province of Andal. Beginning with Lann the Trickster, House Lann is famed for producing great poets, duelists, and miscellaneous knaves.
The Ebon Eye: Many soldiers denied pay from the Forty Years’ War have turned to the outlaw society of the Ebon Eye, an organization that seeks to overthrow the Crown and install a monarchy favorable toward the common man. Composed of angry farmer and sellsword alike, they raid and pillage small villages.
The Royal Academy for the Magical Arts: Secluded from the troubles of the outside world, students of the Royal Academy for the Magical Arts study the wondrous art of thaumaturgy. Although their destructive capacity far exceeds what any normal man can accomplish, they tend to be a cloistered bunch - only officially trained warmages care for politics at all.
Neutral: Then there are those who pledge allegiance to no-one, forging their own paths. This isn't a faction so much as a loose collection of individuals with a common independence.
